Permits / Codes

Permits are required in most but not all areas. Check with your local city or county. If permits are required you will need a plot plan. Normally a sketch will do consisting of a drawing of your lot with the size and locations of existing structures on your lot and the size and location of the new building.

You may be required to prove your property lines which will require you to show your property pins. You may need a survey.

Codes are also found at your local city or county building and zoning office. Codes include such things as set backs (distant from lot lines, other buildings, streets, and alleys. Codes may limit size, number of auxiliary buildings, types of footings, etc.
